WHY WORK WITH A RD VS A "NUTRITIONIST"?

In short, all Registered Dietitians are nutritionists but all nutritionists are not Registered Dietitians.

Many states have no regulation around the title “nutritionist,” allowing individuals to offer dietary guidance with little to no formal training. In contrast, the credential “Registered Dietitian” is legally protected and requires a rigorous, standardized pathway. To earn the RD (or RDN) credential, you must complete a minimum of a masters level degree (as of January 1, 2024), 1,200+ hours of supervised practice through an board certified program, pass a national registration exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration, and meet any additional applicable state licensure requirements.
